I realised i have a weird taste in movies... I like Singapore-made movies! Some will say Eeeeeeeee..... But i just can't resist them. Heh.
"881" is a local production by Royston Tan that pays tribute to the local 'Getai' shows and the late Chen Jin Lang. Throughout the whole show, there are alot of Hokkien songs and 'shiny shiny' costumes. Liu Ling Ling plays a very comical character alongside Mindee Ong, Yeo Yan Yan & '715'. A lot of singing i must say.. A bit like '天边一朵云', but without the R(a) part. Haha. The actors were good, they brought out the gist of the movie. And somehow, this show made me touch base with my roots as a true blue Singaporean. And wahbiang.. i cried again (as usual in movies), the movie didn't have a happy ending, coz one of the girls died as she has lung cancer. Their sisterhood touched me, so i cried lor. Mindee Ong actually shaved her head bald for this movie! Come on, must give her some credit. Its very worth watching, made people so wanna go chiong getai! And the songs are nice lor!
Hollywood have blockbusters, Bollywood have a lot of dancing and coconut trees. Singapore? We have movies that reminds us of who we are, and our uniqueness that made us stand out. =)
HAPPY NATIONAL DAY!
